[Increases in pulmonary arterial resistance are playing an ever important role in pediatric cardiology. In addition to the clinical evaluation and terminological classification, the diagnostic approach to and treatment of the various forms of pulmonary hypertension are described in this chapter. General principles are discussed as well as specific drug entities, their modes of action, indications, and interactions. The benefits of temporarily increasing pulmonary resistance in balancing parallel circulations are described in addition to preoperative measurement of pulmonary resistance and its implications for the surgical procedure.]
