60th Anniversary of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Thermophysics and Aeromechanics, 2017, Vol. 24, No. 2 DOI: 10.1134/S0869864317020019 60th Anniversary of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences On May 18, 1957, the USSR government adopted a historic decree on establishing the Si- berian Branch of the Academy of Sciences (SB AS USSR). This was initiated by prominent scientists: academicians M.A. Lavrentyev, S.A. Khristianovich, and S.L. Sobolev, who not on- ly proposed to create a major scientific center in Siberia, but expressed their readiness to move there to work together with their scientific schools. The founders of SB AS were well aware of the importance of research and publishing ac- tivities. This is why the Novosibirsk-published journal “Bulletin of Eastern Affiliations of AS USSR” was reorganized into a new periodical “Bulletin of Siberian Branch of AS USSR”, which was headed successively by academicians S.L. Sobolev, V.V. Struminsky, and M.F. Zhukov. The journal published reviews, original articles, and brief communications of both natural and humanitarian profile in various areas of science, developed at the institutes of the Academy of Sciences.
