WEC STATEMENT 2002 ENERGY FOR P EOPLE, E NERGY FOR P EACE The W orld E nergy C ouncil (WEC ) has reviewed the results of it s 18th W orld E nergy Congress on “E nergy M arkets: The C hallenges of th e New Millennium”, which was held in B uenos Aires, Argentina in O ctober 2001. For W EC, the message is clear: Affordable modern en ergy services for everyone are a key to sustainable development and peace throughout t he world. At the 18th W orld E nergy C ongress, WEC released its 19th tr iennial Survey of Energy Resources and six new reports: Energy Te chnologies for the 21st Century; Energy Markets in Transition: T he Latin A merican and Caribbean Experience; Val ues Added: E thical E xperiences in t he Energy Sector; Performance of G enerating Plant; Energy Efficiency Policies and Indicators; and Living i n O ne World , all of w hich are available through WEC’s website: www.worldenergy.org. The r ecent WEC reports o n Pricing Energy in D eveloping Countries and Electricity Market Design and Creation in Asia Pacific also served as useful background for the keynote addresses, roundtable
