They encompass many years of experience: Current Sociology Monograph issues were introduced in 2001, as two extra issues per year of the journal Current Sociology, and the SSIS series started in 1974. As editor of both, I con- sidered it necessary to start from this expertise and any proposal or new development should build on these foundations. I was elected as editor and I assumed the position in July 2016. The publication had a dynamic that I was committed to sustain. My first step was to connect with, and learn from, what already existed. This allowed me to be aware of what had already been done, the ‘know how’ available, existing commitments and possibilities of incorporating those inno- vations that were relevant.
