The Department of Structural Engineering, the largest among the five departments in the College of Civil Engineering, was founded in 1923. There are 38 teachers in the Department, including one member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Zhitao Lu, 13 professors and 23 associate professors with a total of 22 PhD holders. In the Department, there are two research institutes and four research centers: • Research Institute for Pre-stressed Engineering • Research Institute for Space Structures and Forms • Research Center for Earthquake Resistance and Vibration Absorption of Building Structures • Research Center for Reliability Identification and Strengthening of Buildings • Southeast Research Center for Underground Building Structures • Research and Development Center for High-Strength and High-Performance Concrete.
