To put some perspective on the publication of the Institute journal, its history and trends evident in the papers published, Ern Prentice (previous Chairman of the Publications Group) and I have prepared a brief review titled 'Twenty years of IPMA Publication'; this article is subtitled 'Literature flourishes best when it is half an art and half a trade'. The subtitle is meant to convey the policy of the journal; it must present articles of a theoretical nature underlying the profession of Personnel Management (the art) as well as articles relating to the specific practice of that profession (our trade) . Whilst the vast majorityo[ IP1VIA. readers are indeed practitioners (or tradesmen) there is an imbalance in the papers submitted for publication : too few of our personnel practitioners are describing the application of Personnel Management, innovations in practice and different ways of doing business. The National President, Dr Len Little, has requested the Publications Group to form a sub-committee aimed at revitalising the IPMA Pathfinders Award.
