Editor’s Introduction Environment and Urbanization ASIA 1(1) vii–xii © 2010 National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) SAGE Publications Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, Om Prakash Mathur Washington DC DOI: 10.1177/097542530900100101 http://eua.sagepub.com First, a personal note On behalf of the Editorial Board and myself, I am pleased to place in your hands the first issue of Environment and Urbanization ASIA, a sister journal to Environment and Urbanization, prepared by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), London, and also to Medio Ambiento Y Urbanizacion, published in Spanish by the Instituto Internacional de Medio Ambiento Y Desarrollo (IIED–America Latina). Adhering to the tradition, Environment and Urbanization ASIA will also be biannual with the next issue planned for September 2010. It being the first issue, it is only fair that I share with its readers and subscribers how the idea of an Asian edition of Environment and Urbanization came into being and what made it into a reality.
