The Council for Public Deliberation (CPD) is a community group dedicated to promoting deliberative democracy by engaging citizens in discussions of issues important to the local community and to the nation. The council, located in central Ohio and meeting since 1998, accomplishes its mission by sponsoring deliberative forums, providing training for citizen moderators and by partnering with local organizations to conduct discussion groups. During late summer 2002, the council held a retreat to revisit its role in the community and to develop a strategy to further engage the community in the deliberative process.
