This book is filled with useful pictures and specific designs. It provides an understandable baseline for contemporary bookstore design. Ken White has produced a worthwhile reference book for anyone involved in selling books. Richard Cuba University of Baltimore Richard Loftin Editor, Databook of Venture Capital Sources for High Technology Companies. Washington, D.C.: Financial Data Corporation, First US Edition, 1981. 576 pages. The purpose of the Databook is to help find the venture capitalist that's best for a particular business. The book explains what the venture capitalists are looking for and what they can provide. The Databook of Venture Capital Sources for High Technology Companies lists 291 venture capitalists: who they are, where they are located, those who are the most popular, the high technologies they are interested in funding (there are 17), developmental preferences, the amount of money they are willing to risk and how much control and active participation they expect to have in the business. The Databook is organized well. Its locator contains 432 tables. Each of these tables describes a particular type of business. The locator also identifies the regional locations of the venture capitalists, which is especially helpful for a small business firm trying to locate a funding source in its own geographical area. There were several things, however about the Databook that were not impressive. A large number of the venture capitalists listed in the book have little or no funding experience. The year of establishment of the venture capitalists was also omitted and finally the price tag, $115 plus tax. Although the book is useful it is suggested that a trip to the library be made to examine it closely before deciding to purchase it.
