CUBA, University of Baltimore This book, now in its fifth edition, continues to fill a need for people who wish to start their own business or improve an existing small business. The book is interesting, readable, and contains many specific pieces of advice and inspiration for the would-be independent enterpriser. A basic weakness, however, is that the scope is too excessive for one volume. The authors make an ambitious attempt to cover the full range of small business manage ment, from the initial decision to go into business, on to selecting location, financing, procurement and sale of merchandise, insurance and record-keeping, and much more; all this intending to cover any business whether manufacturing, sales or service oriented. There is even a section on business directed to international markets. Now at 612 pages (the size alone reflects the growing complexity of owning a business in America), the authors necessarily cut short on both concept and detail and take a middle road.
