1 Introduction REVIEW www.rsc.org/annrepc | Annual Reports C 1 Introduction G. A. Webb, Scientific Editor DOI: 10.1039/b505461n Introduction Section C of Volume 101 of Annual Reports on the Progress of Chemistry consists of accounts of recent developments and applications in various areas of physical chemistry and chemical physics. In the first contribution, P. Vadgama covers Surface biocompatibility; then M. Sablier and T. Fujii provide an account of Mass spectrometry of free radicals: a methodological overview; Cavity ring-down and cavity enhanced spectroscopy using diode lasers is reviewed by M. Mazurenka, A. J. Orr-Ewing, R. Peverall and G. A. D. Ritchie; C. E. Song covers Immobilisation of chiral catalysts: easy recycling of catalyst and improvement of catalytic efficiencies; Studies of spin-coated polymer films is reviewed by K. Norrman, A. Ghanbari-Siahkali and N. B. Larsen; F. Tanaka reports on Catalytic antibodies; and finally, N. Bityurin reports on studies on laser ablation of polymers. It is a very great pleasure for me to thank all of these reporters for their timely and well structured contributions. My thanks also go to the production staff at the Royal Society of Chemistry for their constant help in the preparation of this volume. Annu. Rep. Prog. Chem., Sect.
