This article describes the work of the Belfast home treatment team. It describes the structure of the service, its skills base and aspects of the work it does. It also highlights the impact that gatekeeping has had on the use of acute inpatient psychiatric beds, with a reduction in admissions and an increase in the numbers of people being supported by the home treatment team.
