In Memoriam Justus D. Henderson, M.D. 19 13-1979 Justus D. Henderson, M.D., died in Napa, California after a long, illustrious, and dedicated career. Dr. Henderson attended the University of Illinois and obtained his medical training at the University of Louisville Medical School. He interned at Louisville General Hospital before serving in the army from 1944 to 1946. Following his discharge from the armed forces, he began training in radiology at the Veterans Hospital in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania, followed by further training at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh and Childrens Hospital in Boston. He entered the practice of radiology in the rural and isolated town of Eureka on the northern coast of California. He provided radiological consultation at General Hospital and Humboldt County Hospital in Eureka and served as Chief of Staff at General Hospital. He also provided radiological consultation for the smaller neighboring communities of Scotia and Fortuna. He was well respected by the physicians in his community, and, as one of his close medical colleagues states, âHis greatest attribute was his desire and dedication to help his professional colleagues in taking care of their patients on a full seven-day week schedule.â Dr. Henderson was a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, a member of the Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology, California Radiological Society, American Medical Association, and California Medical Association. He was also active in the Tuberculosis Association, the Cancer Society, Rotary, and Boy Scouts. Following that medical problems with his heart and an operation Justus D. Henderson, M.D. required the insertion of two artificial valves, Dr. Henderson left Eureka and moved to the Napa area to limit his active practice. However, he continued to work at the Hospital at the Veterans Home in Yountville and provided relief coverage at the Napa State Hospital. Dr. Henderson leaves many friends; his lovely wife, Jo; and three sons. His life is best exemplified by a quote from one of his sons, a radiologist at the University Hospital in Portland, Oregon: He was an extremely supportive man, and he helped my brothup. He was very generous with his time and always set high personal standards for himself so that we would have something to live up to. I think his dedication to medicine and to his patients is reflected in that all three sons chose ways took a great interest medically related careers . . . . He alin our careers and in our lives after we left home. We could always feel close even though we lived many miles away. We feel that we were extremely lucky to have such a man for a father, and we miss him greatly. We all hope to be able to live up to the standards he set. E. KASH ROSE, M.D. SIDNEY HENDERSON, ers and me in any way he could as we were growing M.D.
