Crystalloid structures in a lung FNAC.

Crystalloid structures in a lung FNAC. An elderly woman was admitted to hospital because of the presence of a necrotizing lung cavity on radiology imaging. A lung FNAC was performed, showing the presence of rare acid fast bacilli that looked like Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The necrotic material, stained by the Papanicolaou method, showed numerous crystalloid structures (figures 1A and B). They did not polarize and GMS & PAS stains were negative for fungi. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Cytopathology : official journal of the British Society for Clinical Cytology Pubmed
