Exploring sport and exercise psychology (2nd ed.).Youth sports as a behavior setting for psychosocial interventions.

Youth sports as a behavior setting for psychosocial interventions. This chapter explores psychosocial interventions in youth sports. It provides practical guidelines for practitioners who wish to work in the area of youth sports. The chapter presents Coaching Effectiveness Training (CET; F. L. Smoll and R. E. Smith, 2001) as an illustration of an empirical approach to the development and evaluation of intervention strategies in the youth sport setting. Specifically, overviews of (1) the development of CET, (2) the content of CET and procedures for its implementation, and (3) empirical studies used to assess the efficacy of CET are provided.
