Abstract
David Behan Chief Inspector, Commission for Social Care Inspection Feature Protecting vulnerable David Behan outlines the work of CSCI in its role of protecting vulnerable adults. adults Protecting vulnerable adults is a difficult and challenging task that every person and organisation involved with providing and regulating social care should be working to address. This role is one of the key reasons for the existence of the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and is central to the work we do. Safe social care CSCI is working to achieve safe environments and practices for people who use social care services through its inspection and regulation methods, but also by promoting and encouraging improvements in the delivery of social care. Listening to the views and experiences of the people who use social care services is central to how we carry out this important role. However, we should never lose sight of the fact that the primary responsibility for delivering quality care and protecting people from abuse lies with the organisation providing their care and, for residential services, that individual’s home.
