Beyond the Margins we speak of leadership in mental health within all our domains it’s for this purpose we all meet to scribe a unified refrain within the margins of my blue-lined page you see and read these words but beyond those artificial bounds are those who still need to be heard we cannot sideline those in need of help and sensitizing care push the margins off the page and clear a path in which we share it’s in partnership with those who come to find a different way that your work has greatest impact and helps keep their demons at bay speak the language of well-being and health to people everywhere the importance of this seminal task i ask – are you prepared? differences can’t be blithely swept aside the pain will still endure policy, cultural and clinical methods must strive to evolve, respect, mature systems serve or silence or soil our souls – which one’s the best of three? the harmed, depressed and overwhelmed place their trust and hope with you note that verse’s lack of tidy rhyme – it’s done to make a point not all things in life are clean and whole some break and some disjoint you must repair, inspire, include, promote move people in care and hope for in the end all groups depend on leaders to steer the boat leaders live in their communities they eat and sleep and breathe they shed real tears, their blood runs red from hearts pinned to their sleeves so commune with the spirits watching us within this blessed place link like hoops our focus and dedication support the needy within the race as you move forward from the conference with the spirit as your guide listen close with a serene and open heart pursue your aims with pride for the whole wide world is spinning like a dancer on a stage take up your role, linked one to all and speak, and act – engage! in the searing light of day is where these issues must all be dealt emerge from out of the shadows at last and make your presence felt.
