Berry ith this issue, the Journal of Nietzsche Studies inaugurates an exciting Wnew partnership with the north american nietzsche society (nans) by becoming the venue for selected papers presented at its meetings. on behalf of the nans Program committee, i would like to extend special thanks to richard schacht, executive director of the society, and to the entire editorial team at the journal, including christa acampora (editor) and Patrick alexander (director at Penn s tate u niversity Press), for making it happen. it is our hope that contributors to nans will add vigor and breadth to the lively conversation already taking place in the pages of JNS and that reaching its readers will allow us to extend the reach of nans and to galvanize the community of nietzsche scholars in america and internationally. the articles in this issue of JNS were presented at nans sessions held in conjunction with the divisional meetings of the american Philosophical association in spring 2006 and during the 2006–2007 academic year. the first four papers were invited by the nans Program committee and presented at the central division meeting in chicago. the presentations by Paul Katsafanas and randall havas were delivered at
