The managing editor appreciates any information sent in from subscribers and readers. DINERMAN AWARD 2000 TO ROBERT K. MERTON The World Association for Public Opinion Research Presents the 2000 Helen Dinerman Award to Robert K. Merton. The ideas of Robert K. Merton have guided and inspired the social sciences, including the field of public opinion research. Mertons pioneering methodological work, The Focused Interview, presents a method that has received ever-increased use in the past five decades. His collaboration with a great survey researcher, the late Paul F. Lazarsfeld, is a model for scholarly progress that has inspired many colleagues and students. Robert K. Merton has shown us how to relate opinion findings to the history of ideas and to general social theory.
