(G10) BLUEGRASS (KENTUCKY): Poa Pratensis L. SELECTED RATES OF DPX-MP062 FOR FIRST GENERATION SOD WEBWORM CONTROL, T. E. Insecticides were evaluated for control of Sod webworms (SW) on Kentucky bluegrass research plots at the University of Nebraska JSA Research Facility near Mead Nebraska. The turf (100% Kentucky bluegrass) was maintained at a height of 2.5 inches. Thatch accumulation in the plot area was 0.6 inches. Field conditions at the study site were: soil type, silty clay loam; soil organic matter, 3-5%; soil pH, 6-7; water pH, 7.0. Environmental conditions at the time of treatment were as follows: soil moisture 12.0%; air temp 68ºF; soil temp 78ºF; relative humidity 79%; wind direction and velocity 356º at 6 mph. Plots were 8 x 8 ft and the experimental design was a RCB with four replications. Insecticide treatments were applied on 11 Jul 2002. Liquid insecticides were applied using a CO sprayer with a TeeJet 8002 nozzle at 40 psi and delivering 131 gpa formulation. Following application, plots were irrigated with approximately 0.25 inch of water. A total of 0.44 inch of rain accumulated during the post-treatment period. Treatments were evaluated 4 DAT (15 Jul) by mixing 0.5 oz of lemon-scented dish soap per gal of water 2 2 and applying 4.0 gal of water over each of two 6 ft sampling areas/plot (12 ft total area). Larvae that moved to the surface within 30 min were counted. Means were seperated by using LSD. All rates of DPX-MP062 provided statistically significant SW control when compared to the untreated check. The higher rates (0.125 and 0.250) of DPX-MP062 provided excellent control (>92%). No phytotoxicity was observed.
