Radish | Raphanus sativus Cabbage maggot | Delia radicum (Linnaeus) Beauveria bassina, chlorpyrifos, cyantraniliprole, spinetoram, cyclaniliprole In 2018, an efficacy trial located in Aurora, OR, at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center was conducted to evaluate selected insecticides targeting Delia radicum in radish. Plot size was four rows wide by 30 feet in length with 18 inches between rows and a 1.5-inch spacing within rows. Study was structured as a randomized complete block with four replications. Insecticides included Lorsban in-furrow, Verimark in-furrow, Harvanta in-furrow, Harvanta as a post-plant directed spray, Exirel as a post-plant directed spray, SPE-120 seed treatment, SPE-120 seed treatment plus an SPE-120 post-plant directed spray, Radiant seed treatment, and Radiant post-plant directed spray. Seeds were treated with Thiram fungicide at 0.6 g formulated product per 100 g of seed except for SPE-120 treated seeds. Seeds were planted May 14. In-furrow applications were made at seeding with a vacuum seeder modified with a CO2 delivery system to deliver in-furrow drench applications. Post-plant directed sprays were applied at the 2–3 leaf stage on 18 days after seeding (DAS) using a CO2 backpack sprayer calibrated to deliver 22 gpa at 40 psi through a boom with four TeeJet 8002 flat fan nozzles on a 19-inch spacing. Radish emergence was evaluated at 17 DAS by counting the number of emerged radish plants in each of two 1-m row sections in each plot. Early harvest occurred at 24 DAS with 10 radish plants randomly selected from each plot and rated for cabbage maggot damage. Final harvest was conducted 38 DAS, with 1-m sections from two rows harvested from each plot and each root evaluated for cabbage maggot damage. No phytotoxicity was observed in any treatment. Data were subjected to ANOVA. No significant differences were observed between treatments at any sample date (Table 1).1 Table 1. Group means of emergence and cabbage maggot damage.
