Technological innovation and scientific breakthroughs have allowed the development of several safe, effective and non-invasive approaches to address the improvement of skin laxity. The use of laser, radiofrequency (RF), ultrasound, shockwaves or volumetric fillers can all stimulate collagen and elastin remodelling, leading primarily to skin tightening. Of all the energy-based treatment modalities, perhaps the most versatile in terms of the number and types of devices that exist and the aesthetic indications they can ameliorate are those with RF technology. In this article, the authors describe the main RF devices that are making an impact in aesthetic dermatology by treating a breadth of aesthetic concerns, from skin laxity to dyschromias, redness and surface irregularities.
