Of course, whilst such a basic view is useful for first-year law students coming to grips with the essentials of contract law, it is a gross oversimplification of how contracts are actually made. In particular, their substance can be affected not only by what is said between the parties, but also by information and statements made by third parties not directly bound by the contract. Indeed, the twoparty view of contracts leaves little room for third parties, and yet, in modern-day transactions, multiple parties can shape contracts in a number of different ways. Felix Stamer's book focuses on one particular issue: the effect of public statements by a third party on the substance of a contract, and the relevant acquis communautaire on this topic.
