Country Reports: Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom European Envtronmental Law Review Austria Dr F Schwank* New We@a&opls on the TranspontaPion of Dangerous Goods As from the beginning of 1993, there have been new provisions in Europe concerning the transportation of dangerous goods. Austria, as one of the first countries to do so, has transformed these amendments into domestic legal provisions. The following is a summary of their effects in Austria: 1. Clas$cation of Materials The classification of the materials affected by the legal provision has been to a large extent simplified. In particular, the number of classes has been reduced considerably. The classes of dangerous goods have also been up-dated by adding some previously unlisted dangerous materials. 2. New Contents of TranspoftarionPapers In addition to the previously required statement of a description of the goods, the class, the number as well as the letters of the type of ADR or RID and the large leners ADR or RID, it is now necessary to provide additional information on the transportation documents. The transportation papers will now be required to comply with the laws of the CMA. 3.
