The Integration of Cultural Considerations in EU Law and Policies by Evangelia Psychogiopoulou provides a critical analysis of cultural policy in the European Union (EU), with a particular emphasis on the cultural mainstreaming provisions under Article 151(4) EC. The research focuses on the historical evolution, the institutional implications, and the main challenges faced by cultural mainstreaming in the EU. As the author suggests, the book seeks to `assess the legal value of Article 151(4) EC and the degree of accommodation, or lack thereof, of cultural considerations in EC action', with the wider objective of ensuring `a better understanding of the Community contribution to the protection of Member States' cultural diversity through its various policies' (p. xvi). The study relies on a specific definition of culture derived from Article 151 EC and prefers to avoid `plung[ing] into controversial discussion of the meaning of culture' (p. xvii).
