In recent years, the amount of academic and other attention the legal aspects of the European Union's external relations have received has grown enormously. It is not so long ago that the only legally oriented publications on the topic were the occasional article once in a while in a leading journal. In the last two years, at least four other books have been published on aspects of the Union's external relations in English alone. The coming into force of the Lisbon Reform Treaty is no doubt the reason for this proliferation of analysis, as that treaty has arguably changed the environment in which the Union operates as well as its external relations, powers and procedures. The book under consideration distinguishes itself from the others that have already been published in that it expressly seeks to examine not only the law but also the policy aspects of the Union's external relations post-Lisbon.
