This haemoglobin and fetal haemoglobin react identically to dénaturation in aqueous alkaline solutions, have the same migration on paper electrophoresis in an alkaline medium and show the same crystallization, solubility and ultra violet absorption. The majority of the authors admit that the alkali resistant haemoglobin fractions of C o o l e y ’s and sickle cell anaemia are identical with fetal haemoglobin. Other observations, however, maintain differences exist among the alkaline resistant haemoglobin fractions.
