Birth of a New Journal !

Birth of a New Journal ! Editorial Curr Urol 2007;1:1 DOI:10.1159/000106533 Welcome to the maiden issue of ‘Current Urology’ (www.karger.com/cur), a new international, peer-reviewed and urology journal published by S. Karger AG, Basel. The journal is owned and financially supported by Shan - dong University in China. The common question may be why comes out another new urological journal as there already exists many urological journals. The answer is: as urology has become one of the most rapidly expanding subject, and more and more interconnection between clinical and basic research in urology, we never say there are too many journals and media are enough. It is our hope that the new journal can provide practical, timely, and state- of-the-art contributions on the development of urology all over the world. The journal tries to encompass virtually all aspects of basic urological research, surgical and medical oncol- ogy, radiology, pathology, urolithiasis, andrology, reconstruction surgery, pediatric urology, female urology and urodynamics, erectile dysfunction, infertility, urinary infections and inflammations, endourology, and transplanta - tion. Each issue contains reviews, original articles, surgical techniques, case reports, book reviews, correspondence and others. It is published online (ISSN 1661-7657) and also in print (ISSN 1661-7649). At present it is published quarterly, but our aim is to make it monthly in the near future. The aim of the journal is to provide a platform, where urologists and researchers can share their experiences and latest findings in clinical activities and daily research, and it is also our hope that the journal can serve as a bridge to connect basic and clinical urology. We feel confident that ‘Current Urology’ will be proven to be valuable to clinicians, researchers, and other professionals not only to increase the multi- and inter-disciplinary knowledge but also to help manage their patients more optimally. As this inaugural issue shows, we have already received high quality papers on interesting and important top- ics, and provided you with information in a concise and digestible format, representing the sample of the forthcom- ing in future volumes. The Editors warmly welcome urologists, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and scientists to submit your original scientific studies, review articles, case reports, clinical techniques, and letters to the Editor and so on. Each manuscript will be evaluated by at least two reviewers. Our Editorial Board is comprised of an in- ternational and multidisciplinary panel of experts. The editors promise a rapid and fair peer-reviewed process and timely publication. We look forward to receiving your comments and suggestions so as to optimize the format. We are particularly grateful to all the authors and reviewers for their excellent works and generous helps in launching our new journal. We hope you will find ‘Current Urology’ worthy of your attention.
