‘Matter Mixed with Void’: The Sixth Annual James Joyce Research Colloquium, Dublin 25–7 April 2013 UCD JAMES JOYCE RESEARCH CENTRE EVENTS 201314: SIOBHÁN PURCELL (IRC Scholar, National University of Ireland, Galway) `MATTER MIXED WITH VOID': THE SIXTH ANNUAL JAMES JOYCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM, DUBLIN 257 APRIL 2013 This year's James Joyce Research Colloquium convened in Dublin at the end of April for a weekend of exegesis and expounding of all things Joycean. The James Joyce Research Centre, helmed by Anne Fogarty and Luca Crispi, hosted the Colloquium for the sixth year running, this year changing procedures somewhat. The event began in UCD, but for both Friday and Saturday, the Colloquium decamped to Marsh's Library, located in the heart of the Hibernian Metropolis. Though described in Stephen Hero as `an old library in the midst of those sluttish streets which are called old Dublin' (SH 181), the library was a beautiful setting made all the more welcoming by very accommodating staff, and in particular, by Sue Hemmens. When applying to the colloquium, interested parties were encouraged to plan panel formats in advance. This made for cohesive and tightly-bound sets of papers that resonated thoughtfully and more fully than individual papers loosely gathered under baggy headings. In addition to this measure, there were no formal introductions http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Dublin James Joyce Journal James Joyce Research Center @ University College Dublin
