Amazons is a game based on controlling territory where two players attempt to maneuver their four pieces, called Amazons, and shoot arrows on a 10 × 10 board in an effort to eventually control more squares than their opponent (Wikipedia, 2017). The 20th Computer Olympiad of 2017 included an Amazons tournament, as has every Computer Olympiad since 2000 with the exception of 2006.There were four participants, see Table 1. Invader has competed in twelve Olympiads and so is quite the veteran of these events. The other three programs are relatively new and still need some time to mature. We were disappointed that the regular participant Johan de Koning was not able to compete. His program, Eight Queens Problem, known simply as 8QP, is a five time gold medallist at these Olympiads and the battles between it and Invader are always very entertaining and educational. The results of the tournament are shown in Table 2. The event was a double round robin where each program played every other program twice, once with each color. All programs were run locally on personal laptop computers. Except for Invader, all the other competitors are minimax-based. In fact, 8QP is also minimax based. Invader alone is an
