This paper provides an overview of the wide range of ways that Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is being applied to improve tourism processes in hotels, cruise ships, resorts and theme parks. The better operations and marketing made possible by RFID can lower costs, increase revenues and enhance guest experiences. Numerous examples are employed to spark the imagination of how RFID can be used, raise awareness of practical issues concerning the technology and motivate managerial suggestions to help companies better use it and avoid pitfalls. Future research opportunities are also identified.
