Passive-Aggressive Personality Disorder: A Review

Passive-Aggressive Personality Disorder: A Review The passive–aggressive personality disorder has a long history relative to other diagnostic categories. However, there has been much debate as to whether passive–aggression constitutes a personality disorder, defense mechanism, or specific maladaptive personality trait. Various conceptual approaches are reviewed and research is examined as it relates to the passive–aggressive disorder. Controversy surrounding the soundness of this category relates to problems with how the disorder has been defined, including narrowly focused criteria, restrictive criteria, and vague or overlapping descriptive features, yet revisions in the criteria show some improvement. Suggestions are offered for improving and expanding existing criteria. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Personality Disorders Guilford Press

Abstract

The passive–aggressive personality disorder has a long history relative to other diagnostic categories.
