When Consultation is Internal and Informal A Case Study of Intervention on a University Campus

When Consultation is Internal and Informal A Case Study of Intervention on a University Campus The scholarly literature in consultation emphasises scenarios wherethe role of the consultant is external and formalised. The dynamics ofan informal, fouryear long, internal consulting project conducted bytwo faculty members on a university campus are examined. Abstract

The scholarly literature in consultation emphasises scenarios wherethe role of the consultant is external and formalised. However, manyconsultations exhibit neither of these characteristics. The dynamics ofan informal, fouryear long, internal consulting project conducted bytwo faculty members on a university campus are examined. Analysissuggests that this type of consultation involves challenges which, although not unique to informalinternal consulting, are sufficientlydistinctive to warrant increased attention from researchers. Ofparticular importance in this regard is the pervasive influence whichambiguity can have on the handling of various stages of the interventionprocess in informalinternal projects.
