What is VLF The letters stand for Very Low Frequency, just as the letters VHF stand for Very High Frequency television and aircraft radio communication stations and so on. All radio emanations fall within one of the designated bands or wavelength frequencies. VLF is the lowest band, EHF the highest 30,000300,000 mHz. A good rule of thumb is that the lower the band the greater range a station can broadcast over the horizon. That's why TV stations which are VHF have their transmitting towers raised as high as the station owners can afford VHF is lineofsight, hence the higher the transmitting antenna, the farther away is the horizon and the greater coverage that station can give.
