Puts forward a framework for carrying out user evaluations ofexpert systems, which is based on user evaluations carried out in alarge British company over a period of three years. The aim of thisframework is to ensure that the aims of the expert system designers andthe users of the system are congruent. This in turn will make it morelikely that the expert system will be a success. The framework coversaspects such as user type, updating knowledge, training, the value ofthe system and the humancomputer interface.
