Towards the Future Rethinking the Leadership Role of the Principal as PhilosopherKing

Towards the Future Rethinking the Leadership Role of the Principal as PhilosopherKing The current reform movement in education has significantimplications for the development of future models of sitelevelleadership. Much of the recent attention in the educationaladministration literature about necessary leadership qualities and thepreparation of effective school principals, however, does not considerthe relationship of such personal qualities of the leader to othercontextual variables and sociopolitical processes that may alsoinfluence principal behaviour. Current theoretical orientations andresearch on the principal as leader and suggestions for future researchwhich will facilitate the preparation of effective school administratorsare examined. The article rests on the belief that given the currentdemands for implementing schoollevel reforms, perhaps too much in termsof leadership is being ascribed to one individual role. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Educational Administration Emerald Publishing
