The efforts of Ford to get their employees actively involved inimproving quality is one of Americas recent success stories. Employeeinvolvement was one of the key reasons why Ford, which recalled morecars than it built in 1978, has progressed to recently outearning themuch larger General Motors. It took not only upper management supportbut a total rethinking of relationships between line management andtheir employees. Out of this process came Fords eight basic steps forlaunching EI. It is a systematic approach that has produced results.
