Vermeer* This special issue of the Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting & Financial Management contains a selection of papers presented at the 2006 American Accounting Association Government and Non- Profit (GNP) Section’s Mid-Year Meeting in Miami, Florida on February 24–25, 2006. It begins with an introductory essay by Horacio D. Casabé and Vaughan S. Radcliffe. This paper is based on Casabé’s keynote address at the Mid-Year meeting. As the former head of the Argentine IRS and advisor to the Argentine Parliament, Casabé provided a compelling account of the massive fiscal crisis that has affected Argentina from the 1990s through today. As noted in the paper, “in emerging from that country’s greatest crisis there are lessons that present themselves with relevance for other national experiences.” As researchers and citizens, we can learn from the recent history of Argentina.
