The development of a new hightech, highinvolvement organisation is sketched. It concentrates on theorganisational design features of the new culture. These design featuresare compared and contrasted with those of a theoretical model of a highinvolvement organisation. Comment is included on progress towards thenew culture and some of the difficulties encountered. The broad aim ofthe article is to help progress organisations peoplestrategies from control to commitment andhence improve the effectiveness of organisations in an increasinglycompetitive operating environment.
