PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to classify students into clusters at class level according to their preferred learning styles by using group technology.Design/methodology/approachThe Felder and Silverman index of learning styles is used to determine the preferred learning styles of the students, then similarity-coefficient analysis is used to group students into clusters based on the similarity of their preferences.FindingsUsing this approach would allow the instructor to use a teaching style suitable for the students in order to achieve the intended learning outcomes.Originality/valueThis is an original research with promising findings to help educators using this approach to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
