In recent years the significant reliability goals achieved with aeroengines have underlined the progress made in all areas of design and production. These features are prominent in the RollsRoyce series of turbofans in which integrity is guaranteed through the progressive implementation of advances which have been proved in service. One example in the 10,000 to 22,000lb thrust range is the Tay which is the quietest and most reliable engine for arduous short haul operations as in the Fokker 100 and 70 and high altitude business jets like the Gulfstream IV. It is also used in reengineering programmes including that of the Boeing 727 for night freighter operations.
