A process theory of motivation is explored, namelyreinforcement theory. Reinforcement theory is definedand the four primary strategies for implementing it positivereinforcement, negative reinforcement,punishment and extinction are described. Theadvantages and disadvantages of each strategy and theways of scheduling these are outlined, together witha discussion of current research and practicalimplications of the theory.
