Publishers note I am delighted to announce the publication of Issue 2 of Advances in Autism, with a special Emma Leverton edition on “Inclusive educational practice for autistic learners” (Part 2). It is a timely edition, with World Autism Awareness Week 2019 just around the corner, and is led by Guest Editors Professor Nicola Martin and Dr Damian Milton. According to the UN sustainable development goals, obtaining a quality education is fundamental to improving quality of life. This co-produced special edition showcases examples of good practice in education and analyses how to work effectively with autistic learners. Framing autism as positive and enriching, the authors and editors demonstrate that there is much to learn and gain from the experiences that autistic people encounter in inclusive learning environments. A particular strength of this special edition is that the voices of autistic people are present at all levels; from the research itself, to the autistic scholars who have conducted and written the research, and of course the valuable perspective of the co-guest editor. In the words of the National Autistic Society, we need to work “to create a society that works for autistic people.” By sharing experience and best practice, we can contribute to this by creating educational environments that work for autistic people, so they can thrive at all levels of education. I am sure that the research we see in this edition will enrich the knowledge base of educators and researchers alike, and I am delighted to see this showcased in Advances in Autism.
