ALTHOUGH it is obviously a fourengined development of the Manchester the Lancaster is a very great improvement on the earlier aeroplane. It is remarkable not only in that it is exceptionally fine as a flying machine, but also and more rarely in this country because it is very welldesigned from the production side, and the gap between the prototype and largescale production has been exceptionally small.
