The Grumman Tarpon TFB1 better known by its U.S. Navy name Avenger is almost unique among recent American types in that it was in service, and actually in action at Midway Island, before its existence was announced. However, the TFB1 is a great advance over earlier American torpedo shipplanes and is incomparably better than the corresponding British types in service, the Swordfish and Albacore.
