This article attempts to outline the currenteconomic and cultural environment in whichmanagement development operates in Hong Kongand to demonstrate the potential barriers whichexist to the expansion of managementdevelopment provisions and the acceptance ofprocess. We review and evaluate managementtraining and development provision in the territoryusing data from a recent survey. An attempt ismade to identify the ways in which the barriersto management development in Hong Kong mightbe overcome and thus how Hong Kongs managersmight be better prepared for the potentiallydifferent world which may emerge post1997 afterthe takeover by the Peoples Republic of China.
