Abstract
1991 has seen a new census and local authorities will be keen toanalyse the changes which have occurred since the last census. Theiranalysis will be helped by the introduction of Geographical InformationSystems which have been recommended by the Chorley Report. The findingsof ten indepth interviews with local authority officers within planningdepartments are examined in this pilot study. These officers were askedabout Geographical Information Systems, the Population Census and theCensus of Distribution.
