How much note do designers take of users needs in designingbuildings Users apparently are treated as just that, reactivein their use of whatever is provided for them. What is lacking in theminds of designers is an appreciation of the proactive stance ofusers from the sociological viewpoint visvis theirrelationship with the buildings in which they work. Postoccupancyevaluations which have traditionally embraced the reactive should nowtake more cognisance of the proactive aspect of the peoplebuildingsrelationship and rescue the occupants from the zombielike state towhich they have been condemned.
