Implementing the “New Library: The People’s Network” and the management of change

Implementing the “New Library: The People’s Network” and the management of change The New Library: The People’s Network and other recent government initiatives have set out a new direction for public library services in Britain. The aim is to create “hybrid” libraries, combining existing book lending and information services with extensive ICT access. With the new technology will come enhanced roles in information, learning support and reader development. Management of change theory emphasises the effects of introducing change in one area on the whole of the organisation. If this theory is applied to public libraries, significant “knock on” effects can be expected. Some examples are taken from the practical experience of Bury Libraries. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Aslib Proceedings: New Information Perspectives Emerald Publishing

Abstract

The New Library: The People’s Network and other recent government initiatives have set out a new direction for public library services in Britain.
