A questionnaire concerning their outpatient consultation wascompleted by 372 patients attending 17 different clinics over a twodayperiod at East Birmingham Hospital. The majority were satisfied withtheir consultations and felt better informed but many waited excessivelylong periods and many could not give the name or status of the doctorthey had seen. The patients identified the hospital doctor as being moreknowledgeable and, therefore, preferable for followup care whencompared to their general practitioner. Because of this, they wereprepared to be inconvenienced to achieve hospital followup.
